Leased Campus First Step in Permanent Home for Institute

Philadelphia, Penn. - The John Jay Institute officially opened its offices in Philadelphia on February 14, 2011. Located at 306 Bala Avenue in the Bala-Cynwyd area, the Institute is making ready for its next class of resident fellows on a three and one-half acre leased campus complex.

The incoming JJI class will be the first to study in the "Metropolis of the American Founding." Their accommodations will include a 9,800 square foot manor house with supporting facilities. The century old "Victorian shingle" style home contains sufficient space for both student housing and educational programming.  The campus also affords administrative offices and staff housing.

"The Bala campus is a wonderful provision for the Institute, said Alan Crippen, President. "It's more than adequate for our current student housing and programming needs, and the surrounding area is beautiful with all the kinds of places attractive to students. The facility is a great place for our initial organizational footprint in Philadelphia."

A campus open house and other welcoming events are being planned for the spring and summer months. The JJI's new contact information follows:

When a piece of ground is wanted for a use important to the State, I know the State has a right to take it from the owner on paying the full value of it; but certainly the legislature has no right to compel a freeholder to part with his land to any of his fellow-citizens, not to deprive him of the use of it, in order to accomplish one or more of is neighbors in the prosecution of their particular trade or business. Such an act, by violating the rights of property, would be a most dangerous precedent."
John Jay, Letter to Peter Jay Munroe, March 2, 1812
